Itinerary
Discover the wonders of Botswana at a selection of private campsites in the wilderness hotspots of this diverse country. Spend eight nights in comfortable domed tents with private bathrooms featuring an al fresco bucket shower and flush w.c. Your remaining night with Botswana Explorer is at cool and tranquil Matetsi Water Lodge on the banks of the Zambezi River.
Camp teams travel ahead to ensure that the mobile camp is fully set up and a warm welcome awaits as you arrive at each destination. A maximum of six guests per safari ensures that you are guaranteed a window seat with prime views.
This safari begins at Maun International Airport in Botswana and ends at Victoria Falls International Airport in Zimbabwe.
DAY 1 & 2: OKAVANGO DELTA
A member of the team will welcome you at Maun International Airport and help you onto a light aircraft flight to Nxabega Airstrip, where a safari vehicle will be waiting to take you to the campsite. Tucked under massive trees, this campsite is situated in an area with a number of permanent river channels.
Explore the crystal-clear lagoons, islands and waterways by mekoro (dug-out canoe), and enjoy game-viewing walks on the islands. Spend two nights at our campsite in a private concession area with a complement of camp staff to cater for your needs.
Awaken each morning to a chorus of birds or the chattering of monkeys and linger in the comfort of your fully sized bed as you listen to the sounds of your hot bucket shower bring filled with steaming hot water.
DAY 3 & 4: MOREMI GAME RESERVE
A short flight in a light aircraft takes you to Khwai in the Moremi game Reserve. Covering approximately a third of the Okavango Delta, the Moremi combines permanent waterways with drier areas, creating a reserve filled with unexpected contrasts and diverse wildlife. Its riverine forests, tall mopane woodlands and spreading floodplains fringed with majestic palms make it one of Africa’s most scenic wildlife areas.
The combination of habitats makes Moremi the ideal place for your expedition to combine typical savanna game viewing with leisurely cruises along lagoons and channels, and rich bird watching. Spend two nights camping in the Reserve, with extensive and interpretive game-drives taking up your days.
DAY 5 & 6: SAVUTE
A long game drive (5 - 6 hours) takes you to Savute in the Chobe National Park, where you will spend two nights camping next to the dry Savute Channel in an area renowned for sightings of lion and other predator.
The landscape around Savute is starkly beautiful, with an arid, almost desert-like feel. Mopane forest gives way to acacia savanna with rocky outcrops. Large areas of marshland that extended from the Linyanti River have dried up along with the Savute River, but several artificial watering holes attract a high concentration of wildlife.
DAY 7 & 8: SERONDELA
Travel to northern Chobe (4 - 5 hours overland game drive), where you will camp for two nights in the Serondela area. This is the heart of elephant country and you may spend many hours watching the huge herds in and around the Chobe River on game drives or private boat cruises. Northern Chobe is renowned for its large variety of bird and animal life, beautiful scenery and magnificent sunsets.
DAY 9: VICTORIA FALLS
It is a short drive to Victoria Falls, where you can relax in a spacious suite at Matetsi Water Lodge after a tour of the Falls. With 15 km (nine miles) of exclusive Zambezi River frontage, Matetsi offers an unrivaled river experience in addition to spectacular game viewing and birdwatching. Guests delight in afternoon riverboat cruises and guided canoe excursions along the Zambezi River, as well as afternoon and morning game drives.
DAY 10: DEPARTURE
After breakfast at Matetsi, you will be taken to Victoria Falls International Airport by road.
